After some good back and forth debate, he agreed to take the role. Have you ever tried to talk someone out of hiring you? When approached about being a manager by his current boss, Chris Williams didn't think it was a good fit initially. Nerd Journey # 231 - It Comes Back Tenfold with Chris Williams (3/3) Best Practices & General IT.Thunderbird is installed on all workstations. My employer has a shared email account accessible by anyone logged into any of the workstations at the office. The way this currently works:The email account is a Gmail account accessed via IMAP. Hi all,can anyone recommend any good refurb laptops to buy for work that come with warranty and are as close to new quality or if not that they change there parts with manufacturer quality parts (not aftermarket)thanks, rob good refurb laptops to buy for work Hardware. It will work, no configurations, no maintenance, if the line has a dial tone, its working. There is a reason that banks use a hard line POTS connection for panic buttons. While this is a very good system for campuses and large complexes, it requires quite a bit of configuration and maintenance as the interface is not intuitive, and could use some UX development and improvements. From my experience in administering this system, it needs some more improvement. A lot of public entities are implementing systems such as ALERTUS for warnings such as Fire,Weather, and active shooter scenarios, they have physical and dedicated analog communications as well as integration into computer networks. Emergency type scenarios require reliable systems or people will not trust them and will not be able to count on them. The problem with this is the intended use or function that is to be carried out by the cheap hardware that relies on other systems such as wireless and networking that is prone to misconfiguration or total failure. I was going to say Amazon Dash buttons could be programmed to do this. Bottom line, there are some products that might work, but i would push you to lean on a professional alarm company for it. If you do go this route, i would recommend writing up a cintract and having a lawyer review it, basically laying out some sort if limited liabailty clause, the same way alarm companies do. And another line that was mentioned is the liability, if you take this on i would up you business liability drastically, the first time that someone pushes the button and expects the police to show up and they dont, or someone get shot and dies waiting for ems, you will be in litigation for so long that you will wish you had just said no. But here is the issue, as was mentioned, it is illegal in most jurisdictions to dial directly to a 911 dispatch center with an automated message unless it is a pers device of sime sort, even then they are tricky getting them to responde without a dispatch. It eliminates the cost of monitored sites. Elk has a standlone ip dialer of sorts to compete with central station monitored systems. The Green Button initiative is an industry-led effort that responds to a White House call-to-action to provide utility customers with easy and secure access. There are alot of solutions that "could" work. After reading all of the post in inclined to agree with them all.
